Paracas Surprises

Paracas Surprises
Mantles of Paracas

I recently had my head readjusted. No, it wasn't a chiropractic adjustment.

Each time I've been to Peru, I become more and more fascinated with Paracas textiles and embroidery. Lately I've been fascinated by these recurrent themes & images of what I assumed were people in a community.

Before reading on, I'm going to ask you to guess what are all these pictures of?

It wasn't until my last day, oddly enough, in a Paracas museum, that I realized they all are representations of the same thing. I thought, (maybe because of my wife's community outreach) that the first one were community members. The second one, birds (I'm a birder), the last one dolls...

They're all captives. Prisoners. Trophy heads with hair. The bottom one makes that clear.

Ouch. I really heard my head snap on that one.
