How to Submit a Post
The Khipu Field Guide Blog is a platform for sharing research, reflections, and perspectives on khipus and Andean record-keeping with both scholarly and public audiences. We welcome contributions from researchers, students, and practitioners working on any aspect of khipus or related topics.
What We’re Looking For
We invite submissions on a wide range of topics realted to khipus and Andean record-keeping more broadly, including but not limited to:
- Public-facing versions of articles or book chapters
- Reflections on why you work with khipus
- Methodological insights or surprising discoveries
- Object-focused pieces on particular khipus
- Commentary on khipu data, decoding, or analysis
- Reflections on using the Khipu Field Guide
Submissions should aim to be accessible, engaging, and clearly written for a broad readership. We’re happy to discuss ideas in advance if you’re unsure whether a topic is a good fit.
Article Length and Language
- Length: Typically 500–2,000 words, though shorter or longer pieces may be considered in consultation with the editors.
- Languages: Submissions are accepted in English or Spanish.
Images and Media
Authors are encouraged to include images when relevant. Please submit images as separate high-resolution files (JPG, PNG, or SVG), and for each image provide:
- a caption
- a brief image description for accessibility
- the image source
- confirmation of permission for publication
If you are the creator of the image or diagram, please indicate this and grant permission for publication.
Citations and References
When referencing the work of others, please cite sources clearly and consistently (e.g., APA, Chicago, or SAA style). We recommend the Society for American Archaeology Style Guide. Please include a reference list at the end of your post, and when possible link to freely available versions of cited works.
Editorial Process
All submissions are reviewed by the editors, Mackinley FitzPatrick and Kylie Quave, and may be lightly edited for clarity, length, formatting, and tone. We reserve the right to decline submissions that fall outside the scope of the blog or do not align with its mission.
How to Submit
To submit a post, please complete the Khipu Field Guide Blog Submission Form, which can be downloaded below:
Thje form asks for:
- article title
- author name and short bio (50–100 words)
- article text
- references
- image information and permissions
By submitting, authors confirm that the work is original, permissions have been obtained for any third-party material, and that the editors are granted non-exclusive rights to edit and publish the piece .
